Today was a rest day, spent hauling ass to Blois, to catch up with the peloton. The bus was despatched early with our luggage, leaving us the luxury of a late breakfast. Most of us had about as much stinky cheese and cold ham as any man can bear but pain-au-chocolat and good coffee speaks the universal language of love in my books.
A casual stroll through Lourdes confirmed we had stayed longer than necessary. We caught the Train-Grande-Vitesse to Blois, cruising at 250+km/hr while enjoying the delights of the club car. So much so, in fact, that we almost continued our journey a little longer than necessary. Full points to Purecell for sprinting through 4 rail cars, grabbing hand luggage, and disembarking without spilling a drop of Kronenburg 1664.
After settling into a fairly plush hotel, we prepared for the gastronomic highlight of the trip - a Michelin starred restaurant called L'Orangerie du Chateau. Unfortunately, most Michelin starred restaurants aren't used to catering for the rather large appetites that cyclists tend to bring with them.
As this was the final dinner for the tour, the necessary awards were given out, with Le Gateaux gaining the polka dot hat for his efforts in the mountains. Some bucket-sized cocktails with glow-sticks enroute to the hotel added the necessary spark of bohemianism to what was otherwise a very crisply starched night.
